Final HBO boxing card set as fighters make weight
It’s one last tripleheader tomorrow night on HBO.
Tomorrow night’s HBO Boxing After Dark tripleheader from Carson, Calif., is slated to be the final HBO boxing show ever, after the network and the sport have gone hand-in-hand for the last 45 years.
Cecilia Braekhus (34-0, 9 KO), considered the top women’s fighter in the world pound-for-pound, will defender her undisputed welterweight crown against Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes (18-4-3, 1 KO) in the main event. Braekhus weighed in at 146.8 pounds, with Lopes at 146.4.
Top super flyweight contender Juan Francisco Estrada (37-3, 25 KO) is set for action in a 10-round bout, taking on fellow Mexican fighter Victor Mendez (28-3-2, 20 KO). The contractual catchweight for the bout was 121 pounds, as the fight came together on short notice. Estrada weighed in at 120.4, with Mendez at 119.2.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist and current WBC/IBF/WBA middleweight titleholder Claressa Shields (7-0, 2 KO) weighed in at 159.2, with challenger Femke Hermans (9-1, 3 KO) at 157.
