Usman Undergoes Surgery For Double Hernia

Current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman underwent surgery earlier today (Tues., March 12, 2019) in order to take care of a double hernia.

The procedure comes a little over a week from his title-winning performance over Tyron Woodley at UFC 235 where he dominated the now-former champion with relative ease for 25 minutes inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (highlights).

“The Nigerian Nightmare” took to social media to inform fight fans of the news, and managed to keep his eye on the next task at hand in his groggy state.

“I thought this was going to be like, I had knee surgery before, I thought this was going to be like that,” Usman said via MMA Fighting. “This ain’t that at all. At all. This sh*t different. “I’ll be back in no time, and putting a beating on you know who,” Usman said.

Indeed, Usman will defend his 170-pound strap against bitter rival Colby Covington later this year. UFC president Dana White declared that “Chaos” would get the first shot at dethroning Usman, shortly after UFC 235.

With the news of Kamaru’s procedure, it seems Covington will have to wait a bit longer before he can attempt to become the new ruler at 170 pounds. That is, of course, if UFC doesn’t decide to change course again.

Just no more interim titles, please.
