Brant-Murata 2: Live coverage, 7 am ET

Rob Brant and Ryota Murata run it back today in Japan.

Today at 7 am ET from Osaka, Japan, streaming live on ESPN+, Rob Brant defends the WBA “world” middleweight title against Ryota Murata in a rematch of a fight from last October, where Brant surprised pretty much everyone by winning a wide decision in Las Vegas.

Brant, 28, and Murata, 33, are fighting for more than just a secondary title at 160, too. The winner is right in the mix for big fights at the weight — even though they’re sort of in theory on an island with Top Rank, as most of the division’s top names, including Canelo Alvarez, Gennadiy Golovkin, and Demetrius Andrade, are with DAZN. But we’ve seen that for the right deal, lines can be crossed int his new era.

So it’s a pivotal matchup for both men, Brant looking to firmly establish himself and Murata looking to climb back into the race that saw him seemingly on the edge of a fight with Golovkin.

ESPN’s web site is listing two other fights — including a world title bout — as part of the “main card,” but that’s no guarantee. That said, here’s the full listing of fights on the show:

Main Card (ESPN+, 7:00 am ET)

  • Rob Brant (25-1, 17 KO) vs Ryota Murata (14-2, 11 KO), rematch, middleweights, 12 rounds
  • Ken Shiro (15-0, 8 KO) vs Jonathan Taconing (28-3-1, 22 KO), junior flyweights, 12 rounds
  • Joe Noynay (17-2-1, 6 KO) vs Satoshi Shimizu (8-0, 8 KO), super featherweights, 12 rounds
