Chavez has not fought since a May 2017 loss to Canelo Alvarez
Okay, so the last two tries didn’t really work out, but we might actually finally get to see Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. back in the ring before long. He’s reportedly set to return to action on August 10th in Tijuana against Colombian journeyman Evert Bravo. The weight class remains unknown; Bravo has fought at both 168 and 175 in the past, so either one is feasible.
Despite Chavez (50-3-1, 32 KO) coming off a two-year layoff since his one-sided loss to Canelo and being, well, Chavez, this won’t be competitive. Bravo (25-10-1, 19 KO) hasn’t beaten anyone with a winning record in the last eight years and the majority of his nine knockout losses have come in four rounds or fewer. Among his betters, only Seanie Monaghan failed to finish him, while Alfredo Angulo and Roman Alexis Angulo dispatched him in under two rounds apiece.
I, for one, can’t wait to see boxing’s premier galoot back in action.
