Saunders says he came to Matchroom to seek out the big fights.

With super middleweight titleholder Billy Joe Saunders (28-0, 13 KOs) making a formal announcement today that he’s signed a promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, Saunders talks a bit about his motivation behind the move. It’s not too difficult to figure out though, as the deal has garnered Saunders at least $30M with some big potential fights on the horizon.

“This move is going to benefit me massively,” said Saunders. “Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing can put me right out on the branch for those big fights.

“I’m on Golovkin and Canelo’s turf. I’ve made this move to make them fights because I’m sick of hearing their bulls*** excuses.

“Those fights make financial sense and they make sense because we’re on the same network.”

Saunders continued by saying that he intends on campaigning between middleweight and super middleweight — wherever he can land the most significant fight. Saunders also lit up at the fact that he believes that his signing with Matchroom will provide him with much greater exposure and activity than he’s had in the past.

In the meanwhile Saunders says he expects to be back in action in either late October or early November. Saunders most recently defeated Shefat Isufi in May to claim the WBO’s vacant super middleweight belt.
