Edwards will compete at either super flyweight or bantamweight his next time out.
In one of the bigger quarantine signings, former flyweight champion Charlie Edwards has joined brother Sunny as part of Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions.

“I was with Eddie Hearn for six years, and I needed to freshen things up. I feel this is the next chapter of my career,” Edwards said. “I have seen what Frank has done for my brother Sunny. He has done very well for him from the start.
“Frank really looks after his fighters as well. I felt I was taken for granted, and I am looking forward to getting started with Frank as my promoter.”
Edwards (15-1, 6 KO), whose first title bid ended in disaster at the hands of John Riel Casimero, finally got his hands on some hardware two years later with a decision over Cristofer Rosales. After cruising past unworthy challenger Angel Moreno, he squared off with Julio Cesar Martinez, fresh off of an upset knockout of Andrew Selby.
Martinez proceeded to absolutely maul Edwards, only to hit the Surrey native while he was down and cause a No Contest. Edwards forewent the rematch and vacated his WBC belt, claiming difficulties with the 112-pound limit. He is presently noncommittal as to where he’ll compete going forwards.
“The next fight is likely to be a gauge to see where I’m at regarding my best weight. The main thing is keeping my world ranking at (115) for now,” Edwards said. “I look at the bantamweight champions. I’m not deluded and say, ‘I’m world level’ at that weight because that would be stupid.
“If I go to bantamweight, I won’t be rushing to get in with world level fighters. It will be building up over a few fights. I have Frank behind me, and he is not going to chuck me in at the deep end. It’s going to be building into the world title picture.”
I would like to point out that the press release calls Charlie and Sunny “The Croydon Klitschkos,” which is “Welsh Mayweather” levels of embarrassing.
