Berlanga’s three 2020 fights lasted just over five minutes cumulatively

After spending just 5:01 in the ring last year, Puerto Rican knockout machine Edgar Berlanga will look to keep his streak alive on Apr. 24, as Mike Coppinger reports that his team has “struck a deal” to face veteran finisher Demond Nicholson on ESPN.

Sorry, David.

Nicholson (23-3-1, 20 KO) has definitely been around the block, taking on the likes of Immanuwel Aleem (majority draw), Steve Rolls (split decision loss), Jesse Hart (TKO loss), and most recently Mike Guy (split decision win) last February. That said, he definitely seems to have some durability issues, as Rolls, Hart, and Guy all sent him to the canvas at least once.

Not the best track record to have against Berlanga (16-0, 16 KO), who’s yet to see a second round as a professional. Still, Nicholson’s definitely a step up compared to the likes of Eric Moon and Ulises Sierra and presumably has the power to punish “The Chosen One” if he gets complacent.

The Apr. 24 event is set to be headlined by Emanuel Navarrete defending his WBO featherweight title against Christopher Diaz.
