Brant moving back to 160, returns in March

Rob Brant is ready to get back on track in the middleweight division.

Rob Brant, who lost in the opening round of the World Boxing Super Series super middleweight tournament against Juergen Braehmer, will move back down in weight to his natural division, middleweight, and returns to the ring on March 9 in Minnesota.

From ESPN and promoter Greg Cohen:

“Rob only moved up in weight for the opportunity. Remember, he was a mandatory challenger at middleweight. He has no problem making 160 pounds. He only went up for the great opportunity the tournament provided. There was tremendous financial upside. It just didn’t work out for him.”

Cohen said that even if Brant (22-1, 15 KO) had run the table in the tournament, he planned to fight again at middleweight, where he used to have a mandatory title shot lined up, though it was never in serious view, giving him the opening to take the shot at 168.

Brant, 27, will be facing journeyman Colby Courter (12-11, 9 KO) in an eight-round fight in his return bout, a tune-up meant to get him back in the win column.

Do you think Brant has the skills to make any noise at 160, or will better opposition do to him what Braehmer did?
