Brazil\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/esportes.estadao.com.br\/blogs\/blog-do-baldini\/de-olho-na-revanche-pelo-titulo-mundial-patrick-teixeira-prepara-volta-aos-ringues-em-11-de-dezembro\/?utm_source=estadao:twitter&amp;utm_medium=link\">Estad\u00e3o newspaper<\/a> reports that former champion Patrick Teixeira will return to action December 11th against unbeaten contender Magomed Kurbanov, <a href=\"https:\/\/boxrec.com\/en\/event\/839419\">while BoxRec lists the location as Ekaterinburg, Russia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Teixeira (31-2, 22 KO) ended his home country\u2019s long title drought in 2019 with an impressive upset of the red-hot Carlos Adames, turning the fight around with a seventh-round knockdown that ultimately proved pivotal on the scorecards. He wouldn\u2019t fight again until this past February, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.badlefthook.com\/2021\/2\/14\/22282359\/diaz-vs-rakhimov-results-highlights-jojo-shavkat-fight-draw-ibf-belt-vacant-dazn-boxing-news-2021\">when he put forth a gutsy but unsuccessful effort against the aforementioned Castano<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After beating a handful of familiar-but-faded names, Kurbanov (22-0, 13 KO) took a sizable step up in class in May against Liam Smith, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.badlefthook.com\/2021\/5\/7\/22425133\/kurbanov-vs-smith-results-magomed-wins-questionable-decision-over-liam-russia-boxing-news-2021\">emerging victorious via questionable decision<\/a>. While the win earned him the WBO\u2019s \u201cinternational\u201d title, the sanctioning body ultimately elected to name Tim Tszyu the mandatory challenger.<\/p>\n<p>Not a lot to complain about here; Teixeira needs a win over a big name to return to the title mix and Kurbanov certainly wants a decisive victory to move past the lingering controversy.
